Updated January 2024

Current Conditions

  • We expect annualized 1Q24 volumes to be 1.81 billion sq. ft. (+1.7% YOY).
  • Overall demand has been robust due to homeowners installing decks and porches on newly built homes for the past several years.
  • Outdoor living continues to be a driver for decking and porch demand from homeowners.
  • Material conversion from wood to composite/PVC decking continues to be a trend for deck replacement.

Demand Outlook

  • 1.88 billion sq. ft. installed in 2024 (+2.8% YOY)
  • Our 2023 US Residential Architecture and Design Survey, conducted by our New Home Trends Institute, revealed that a significant share of residential designers plan to increase the size of ground-floor outdoor living space, leading to more deck and porch material per home. Designers note a reduction in upper-level outdoor space due to affordability concerns.
  • Affordability challenges are reducing the share of new homes with decks, thus boosting post-sale deck installation activity.
